TIME OUT - What's in your makeup?

A few years ago I started looking for the perfect makeup line to add to my practice. As an esthetician, I wanted to choose a makeup line that was beneficial to my clients skin. Jane Iredale, the skin care makeup - was my top choice. Not only does it provide great coverage with virtually no touch ups needed but it's also great for your skin! When you hear about Jane you hear words like non-comedogenic, free of Parabens, and high in SPF Content. That all sounds great, but what does it mean? A lot of companies throw around slogans and terms that sound fantastic.. However, with one glance at their ingredient deck, you can see it's any thing but fantastic for your skin. Jane Iredale has a proven and tested difference that makes it superior to any makeup line out there.

Non-Comedogenic
Unless you suffer frequently from acne you may not be familiar with this term. MANY cosmetics have harsh ingredients that can clog the pores, making them a comedogenic product. AKA your makeup is making you break out! What is obvious to most people is to use a good foundation. But what about blush or lipstick? You just need a pop of color so you can be cheap on this, right? WRONG! I've treated many clients who suffer sudden breakouts on their cheek bone or around the lip line. Cutting the comedogenic makeup almost immediately takes care of the problem. Jane Iredale is a non comedogenic, clinically and dermatologist tested makeup line. They have everything you could ever need for your makeup bag!

No Parabens
The most overlooked ingredients in your makeup and skin care. Parabens are a preservative used in the cosmetic world. That doesn't sound bad.. But what do Parabens do to your body? Parabens are an endocrine-disrupting chemical. They can absorb into the bloodstream and according to safecosmetics.org they can cause a variety of health concerns such as cancer and developmental and reproductive issues. Propyl and butyl Parabens can even lead to low T. Have you noticed a lot of men on testosterone therapy? Because I have.

Minimal Allergy Risk
Jane Iredale products are typically a great choice for the most sensitive of skin. Janeiredale.com states "Our products are safety tested, allergy tested, and dermatologist tested to ensure avoidance of any ingredients that my be skin sensitizers." I've seen a lot of clients who have worn irritating makeup since their teens and didn't realize that a lot of their skin concerns came directly from their choice in makeup. A change in makeup has shown to make a big difference in the skin appearance in many of my clients.

SPF Protection
As an esthetician, I see a lot of sun damage so SPF was an important factor in choosing my line. Jane Iredale has an excellent selection of foundations that provide the protection I wanted for my clients. In fact, Jane has an impressive recommend cation to back up their claims - "Seven jane iredale products have earned the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation. To earn this seal, a manufacturer must provide scientific data showing that its products sufficiently and safely aid in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin." Jane's products that feature SPF are also water resistant for 40 minutes. They are prefect for those hot, sunny summer days!
